Date | : | 10/7/1999 - 13/7/1999 |
Place | : | Rodos Island (Greece) |
Casualty | : | Sinking - Refloating Operation |
Whilst anchored off Rodos Island, the M/T “GEORGIOS I” drifted due to adverse weather conditions and stranded. The vessel capsized and was lying at 90o on her starboard side. POSEIDON was contracted by her owners to refloat her. Refloating was succeeded by watertightening the side tank & No 1 and No 2 Cargo Holds, pressing air into them, pumping out seawater from her engine room and double bottoms ballast tanks. She was then safely delivered back to her owners. Worth to mention that after her successful refloating, she returned BACK TO TRADE transporting fresh water in the Greek Islands.
