Casualty | : | Grounding – Hull Repairs & Antipollution Actions |
During maneuvering with pilot on board from Piraeus anchorage to Ikonion RoRo Terminal for discharging, she sustained various damages on her hull after grounding/passing very close to Psitalia Island. POSEIDON was contacted and instructed by the vessel’s agents in Piraeus, MESSRS “ALLALUF”, and later directly by her master to respond over possible pollution and inspect her hull in order to ascertain and locate the damages. POSEIDON executed antipollution works that included the staging and deployment of oil containment booms around the vessel in order to prevent any oil spills escaping from cracked port side F.O. & D.O. tanks. A bottom video-recorded inspection performed, revealed numerous deformations, scratches and cracks of various dimensions on PS bottom area extending from her bow to midship. Following agreement with the vessel’s owners MESSRS “GRIMALDI”, POSEIDON carried out temporary repairs to her class satisfaction enabling her to sail for further permanent repairs in a shipyard while the collected oil that escaped from her cracked bottom was safely disposed at approved reception facilities.
