The M/T “SERIFOS” ran aground onto the rock of Cape Papas and was lying stranded with her hull severely damaged and her tanks, DB tanks and engine room flooded. POSEIDON was contracted by shipowners to refloat her and take all the necessary antipollution actions. Refloating operation included sealing of all the openings (external and internal valves), patching up, pumping out of the seawater from all tanks and void spaces, pressurizing air into No 3 Cargo Hold PS, No 4 and No 5 Cargo Holds PS and SS, deployment of booms for the protection of the sea environment. Vessel was successfully refloated within 16 days and towed to Elefsis bay.
