Grounding - Refloating Operation

The laden with 1768 tons of loose stones CARGO SHIP ‘“THEOFILOS SEA” ran aground on the rocky islet of Platia off Poros, September 26th. Appointed by her shipowners POSEIDON mobilized her fleet fully equipped with salvage and antipollution gear to the casualty. Further to a video recoded inspection that was performed to ascertain the damage of hull, a refloating plan was handed over to the authorities for approval. in order to gain vessel’s buoyancy lightering services of about 250tons of cargo, de-bunkering (33.5tons D.O.) and pressurization of air into her DBs were carried out.The refloating operation started on September 28th evening hours and completed successfully within half an hour time with the assistance of T/B ‘ALEXANDROS VERGOS’. Once afloat, the vessel was shifted under tow to a safe, nearby Platia Islet, anchorage where temporary repairs to her class surveyor and authorities’ satisfaction were carried out. The vessel was safely redelivered to her owners on September 30rd.
